With more players, more team and more matches being played in 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), the insurance cover for the occasion has also turned bigger. This is because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has increased the function coverage limit by 25 % to Rs 5,000 crore compared to Rs 4,000 crore in the last year.
The IPL insurance contract includes different partners like BCCI, the teams, the telecaster, sponsors and ancillary service providers, for any income misfortune on account of unforeseen events, such as weather issues, riots, lack of player service fees on account of injury or illness and medical costs. However, the risks also have increased this time around with the concentration of teams in a single state only.
