India Insurance News : J&K Administration Seeks CBI Probe in Insurance, Hydropower Contracts

The J&K administration has suggested a CBI probe into granting contracts for a hydropower project and group insurance for the government employees.

The decision was taken following claims evened out by former Governor Satya Pal Malik that he was given a bribe of Rs 300 crore as a trade off for getting the records free from two major industrial houses. Malik “would not take the bribe and dropped the contracts”.

On August 31, 2018, Malik’s administration allocated a group mediclaim insurance contract to cover around 4,00,000 government employees and pensioners to Anil Ambani’s Reliance General Insurance Company. In October that year, Malik declared the rejecting of the agreement saying “it was full of frauds and officers involved in the scam were recognized”.
